Keoni's Big Question by Patti B. Ogden

Join Patti B. Ogden, author of the Christian children's picture book, Keoni's Big Question (Capstone Productions), as she virtually tours the blogosphere in April on her first virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book Promotion!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

As an enthusiastic Sunday school teacher, there was only one thing Patti Ogden did not enjoy about the teaching experience; too often, her lessons would end with the children not grasping the concepts that they were intended to teach. With a genuine heartfelt desire to reach children’s soul realm, she unleashed her God-given creativity and began to break down her lessons into simple terms – added excitement and drama - and suddenly she saw the "lights go on!" Soon the kids were asking questions and wanting to know more!

With a background in journalism and a sincere burden to help kids seek their own spiritual growth, she is now the author of Keoni’s BIG Question and two other Christian children's books due to be released in 2009.

She was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Patti is a devoted wife to her husband Jeff, of 35 years, mother of two and grandmother to five darlings that fill her life with joy. She and her husband Jeff enjoy life on their eleven acre hobby farm in Oregon, Illinois.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

A boy who seeks answers about God’s presence in everyday life, finds his friend held the key to his revelation all along. This gripping tale follows a pair of dear friends on a fishing trip that turns dangerous, then miraculous, and leaves Keoni with more answers then he ever dreamed possible! Every child wonders why we can’t see God. Keoni’s Big Question makes the answer easy to understand.

I was lucky enough to be able to interview this very talented author. Here are her answers:

Could you please tell us a little about your book?

Keoni’s Big Question is a 32 page fully-illustrated children’s book that follows the journey of a little boy who is extremely curious about God. The story is about Keoni’s question and his quest to find the correct answers. In the end, he finds that an old family friend held the key to his revelation all along. Every child has questions about God at one time or another, this book helps make the answers easy to understand.

Did something specific happen to prompt you to write this book?

Yes, I am a Sunday school teacher and I had a few very disappointing experiences where the children were not grasping the basic Bible concepts that I was trying to teach. I realized that many of the studies aimed at children were presented far above their level and they couldn’t relate to the words and examples that were used. I decided something had to be done to reach them and when I was successful at doing so, the idea for a book came to mind.

Who or what is the inspiration behind this book?

William Branham told a story about a little lad and a grandfatherly gentleman "Old Fisherman" in some of his sermons. That was my inspiration. My challenge was to name the boy and fill in the gaps with fiction.

What cause are you most passionate about and why?

I am very passionate about reaching out and spreading the gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth. It’s a treasure we are not to keep to ourselves. You know, let your light shine!

In the last year have you learned or improved on any skills?

I have improved on sentence structure and learned that less is more.

Who has influenced you throughout your career as a writer?

On my first book I am very thankful to my friends George Smith as well as David and Sharon Buckley. They have given their utmost assistance with constructive analysis, wonderful suggestions and editing; all of it has helped me "think outside of the box".

What do you feel has been your greatest achievement as an author?

When I received comments, reviews and feedback that hit me right at the goal I wanted to reach. My book moved not just people, but entire families. That was an awesome moment.

What do you feel is your biggest strength?

The ability to discern what children are needing and saying without them ever speaking a word.

What do you feel sets this book apart from others in the same genre?

It doesn’t have just one message or meaning. A parent or teacher can take this book and teach at least seven different Biblical messages, virtues or lessons from it.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

I would like to invite everyone to our website www.Capstone-Productions.com to learn more about our books. We would love to have you stop by! My new blog will begin in a couple of weeks.

Also, we have two other books coming out this year. Shamgar and the Ox Goad and Momma, Am I Pretty?

Our book trailer for Keoni’s Big Question will be out in May.

It’s been great to be here, I would like to thank you for hosting me. Blessings, Patti

Interview with Dr. Kenneth Gentry

About the author:
Dr. Kenneth Gentry, Jr. received degrees from both the Reformed Theological Seminary and Whitefield Theological Seminary. He pastored for twenty-five years in both the Presbyterian Church in America and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. He now serves as Director of NiceneCouncil.com and the executive director of GoodBirth Ministries. Both organizations are dedicated to advancing serious Christian education, scholarship and apologetics. Dr. Gentry is the author and co-author of over 20 books.
I was able to ask the author a few questions, here is what he had to say.

Could you please tell us a little about your book?

It is a collection of eight pamphlets I had published previously. The topics are generally issues that generate controversy and discussion. The topics I cover in this collection include tongues-speaking, the book of Revelation, the biblical view of creation, infant baptism, baptismal sprinkling, and other interesting issues.
Can you explain what a postmillennial preterist is?

A postmillennialist is one who believes that Christ established his kingdom during his ministry in the first century. He holds that Christ empowers his people by His Spirit to successfully promote the gospel in all the world. When He gave the Great Commission, he fully intended that His people "make disciples of all the nations" (Matt. 28:19) – because He had all authority to command it (Matt. 28:18) and He will be with His people to see that it is accomplished. Consequently, the postmillennialist is optimistic regarding the long-term prospects for the Gospel and the Church in history. They fully expect that a day is coming when the Gospel will be the rule in the world rather than the exception to the rule. They believe this because "God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him should be saved" (John 3:17).A preterist is one who takes seriously certain near-term indicators in a large number of New Testament prophecies. He sees, therefore, the great tribulation (Matt. 24:15) occurring in the first century destruction of the Temple in AD 70, because Jesus was speaking about that very Temple (Matt. 24:1-3), warned his hearers to flee out of Judea (Matt. 24:16), and said that all these things will occur in "this generation" (Matt. 24:34). Likewise, the Book of Revelation opens and closes with announcements that the events must "shortly take place" (Rev 1:1; 22:10) because "the time is near" (Rev 1:3; 22:6). Because of such temporal indicators as these, many prophecies that some Christians think are yet to occur, have already occurred.
What is the difference between postmillennialism and preterism?

Preterism is an interpretive approach to Scripture; postmillennialism is a doctrinal conclusion regarding what Scripture teaches about Christ's kingdom. Preterists can be either amillennial or postmillennial. And postmillennialists can be either preterist or futurist. In a sense, preterism answers the question: "When shall these things be?" Whereas, postmillennialism answers the question: "What shall these things be?"
What prompted you to write this book?

I have received a number of encouragements from readers of my several pamphlets. They wanted copies of the materials in one book so that they could use the material to teach Bible classes or share the issues with friends more easily than handling eight separate pamphlets.
What do you hope to accomplish by writing it?

First, I hope generally to whet the appetite of Christians to consider biblical issues more deeply and to recognize that there are different evangelical viewpoints on these important matters. Second, I hope specifically that my presentations might persuade evangelicals to adopt the positions I advocate.
What is the most important thing in your life write now?

My relationship to Jesus Christ through His saving work in the Gospel. As a result of that I earnestly desire to promote a better understanding of His word in Scripture. Are you a different person that you were 5 years ago? In what way/s?I am pretty much a "boring" person. I don't undergo a lot of changes. I have the same convictions on theological issues that I have held since my seminary studies in the 1970s. I suppose I am different in that I have grown more in grace and am more mature in my faith. But my faith commitments remain the same.
What projects are you working on currently?

I have just released two other books: "A Biblical Defense of Predestination" (ApologeticsGroup.com) and "The Book of Revelation Made Easy" (American Vision Press). My major focus currently is researching a 1000 page, exegetical, academic commentary on the Book of Revelation. I have been working on this project for several years. And I am updating and revising my 600 page text on eschatology, titled "He Shall Have Dominion: A Postmillennial Eschatology."
About the book:
This book is for serious Christians following the Biblical encouragement to “be a good servant of Jesus Christ, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of sound doctrine” (1 Tim. 4:6). Dr. Kenneth l. Gentry, Jr. provides a banquet of nourishing entrees too seldom found on the menu of the modern evangelical church, to help hungry believers grow in understanding. You can visit his publisher's website at www.nordskogpublishing.com/
